The Municipality of Moneglia obtained the Environmental Certificate for its Environmental Management System on 29.11.05, according to the requirements of the ISO 14001:04 standard. The certificate was renewed on 29.11.2008 and will be valid until 29.11.2011.

The UNI EN ISO 14001:04 standard (International Standardisation Organization) is a voluntary regulation which has the purpose of identifying standard characteristics and requisites that are necessary for the certification of an Environmental Management System.

The function of EMS is to verify the environmental services provided by organizations that adopt this system in view of full compliance with the rules, as well as continuous improvement and optimization of their services and activities, while aiming at reducing wastefulness and pollution and improving the quality of life.

The Administration willingly undertook the path towards the attainment of this certification, starting from a deep environmental analysis that allowed for an exhaustive evaluation of environmental features deriving from their activities as well as the identification of critical aspects. The next step led to the approval, on 10.02.05, of the environmental policy, which represents the starting point for the identification of a series of goals aiming at environmental improvement, in compliance with the contents and indications provided for by the aforementioned policy.

Finally, the documentary system for the implementation of EMS was established. Consequently, the customary operational methods carried out by the municipality’s human resources were reorganised, while a series of new procedures was introduced.

The Environmental Policy was reviewed by D. C. C. n. 36 dated 29.07.2009. This new document acknowledges the results attained during the last three years. New action lines for continuous improvement of the environmental services provided by the Body are also pointed out in this document.A third certification body audited the EMS both internally and externally in order to ascertain compliance of the system with the requisites provided for by the standard. A proper environmental communication towards the outside and the sensitization of citizens, tourists and operators throughout the territory are an essential requisite.To this end, the Municipality has decided to divulgate information and data regarding its environmental services and improvement goals by making its own website available and easily accessible to everyone.
