Blue Flag from1990

As far as today, the Municipality of Moneglia has been awarded the Bandiera Blu (Blue Flag) recognition for 20 times and is also reconfirmed for the year 2009.

The main criteria which is considered for the environmental quality’s valuation are:

  • absolute soundness of the water with continuous publication of the data on the beaches as well as in Internet. The data is the result of random tests which are carried out every two weeks; canalisation and cleaning systems which guarantee an adequate treatment of liquid manure as well as the absence in the water and on the beaches of traces of pollution as a result of all kinds of discharges;
  • presence on the coast territory of services and organisational systems which guarantee to all who visit the beaches, as far as the hygiene is concerned, the existence of simple accesses and of eventual saving procedures respecting the general balance of swimming activities and nature;
  • attention of the administrations towards a better development with the aim to improve the control of the environmental performances and the coast’s development;  a solidified environmental education activity in the schools and information for tourists and inhabitants.
The choice among the Municipalities (630 Italian Municipalities are considered as coast zone) which are candidates for the Blue Flag, is carried out by a Technical Judging Commission consisting of experts for environmental topics and by institutional representatives who operate usually in the environmental sector.
The municipality of Moneglia has received the Blue Flag by 1990 and participates every year to maintain this prestigious recognition, as it has also the Environmental Certification ISO 14001.
Beaches.
The seaside of Moneglia consists of sand beaches; there are free beaches, lidos and private beaches.
