The international environmental Label promoted by FEE International for the development of eco-sustainable tourism. The objective of Green Key is to contribute to the development of sustainable tourism.
It is a rating system designed to recognize, promote and award accommodating facilities that are committed to improving their environmental performance, in particular:
• hotels
• camping sites
• agritourisms
• residential hotels
The project derives from the collaboration between RINA e FEE Italia, the Italian branch of FEE International (Foundation for Environmental Education). It is a non-profit organization with head office in Denmark and aims at promoting sustainable development through environmental education. Accommodation facilities that achieve the Green Key Label acquire great importance in terms of image and visibility both in the national and international ambit. RINA and FEE Italia have stipulated an agreement through which RINA verifies compliance with the " Green Key requisites ". In case of positive outcome, FEE Italia issues "The Green Key" Label.
In order to obtain the Label, accommodation facilities must comply with the following requisites:
• minimization of water and energy consumption
• minimization of waste production
• reduction or elimination of the use of hazardous substances
• utilization of biological or local food products in the restaurant and catering sector
• staff training on environmental behavior
• sensitization of the client towards the environmental impact of tourism by orientating behaviours and choices towards environmental sustainability
